PlateFluent Privacy Policy

Effective August 18, 2026

PlateFluent is a nutrition education app. Our privacy design is simple: your data stays on your device unless you explicitly send it somewhere, and we don't run accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking of any kind. On a shared kiosk tablet, "your device" means that tablet — see the kiosk section below.

What stays on your device

• Your WELL Diet Score results and answers
• Your food preferences (diet, allergies, dislikes, cuisines)
• Your saved recipes, game scores, points, and streaks
• Your settings (language, text size, appearance)

None of this is transmitted to us. Deleting the app deletes it.

What leaves your device, and when

• "Ask anything" questions. When you ask a food question, the question text is sent to our server and processed by an AI language-model provider to generate the answer. We do not store your questions or answers, and they are not linked to you.
• Dietitian screening requests (opt-in). If you choose to request a screening after a WELL Check, the email address you enter, your participant ID, your answers, your score, and a PDF of your report are emailed to the registered dietitian team so they can contact you. This happens only when you press the request button, under a clearly displayed consent notice.
• Emailing your own results (opt-in). After a WELL Check you can have your report sent to yourself. On a shared kiosk you type an email address and our server sends the report to it — the address is used for that one message and is not stored. On your own phone the report is handed to your device's share sheet (Mail, Messages, Files) and never touches our server. The report includes your answers, your score, and, on a kiosk, the name of the organization running it.
• Recipe lookups. In limited cases the app fetches recipes from the Spoonacular API. These requests contain food-preference filters, never your identity.

Kiosk mode (shared tablets)

When PlateFluent runs as a shared kiosk (for example at a fitness or wellness center), you check in with your name and date of birth so the tablet can find your results on your next visit. That information is stored only on that tablet, protected by a staff PIN, and is never sent to us or to any server. Each participant is assigned an ID number (like LOY-7K4MQ); the research data export contains ID numbers, dates, and scores only — never names or dates of birth. Site staff can separately export the list linking names to IDs, and that list stays under the site's control.

What we never do

• No user accounts, no contacts, no location. We (the developers) never receive your name — on a personal phone it is never asked for, and on a kiosk it stays on that tablet
• No advertising, no ad identifiers, no third-party analytics or trackers
• No sale or sharing of data with data brokers — ever

Not medical advice

PlateFluent is educational. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace advice from your doctor or a registered dietitian. The WELL Diet Score is a self-check for learning, not a medical assessment.

Children

PlateFluent is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
